I’ve just received my copy of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2011 (Portfolio 21).  I’ve written half the captions for this book most years for quite some time now. The images are, as always, mostly stunning. But what never fails to impress me is the stuff that the youngsters pull out of the hat. There are three categories specially for young photographers (15-17,  11-14, and 10 or under). Half of the time, these children seem to be simply sitting around their own back garden or in some local park. They watch, wait, notice… and then they come up with something like this.
