Thanks to Rodley Nature Reserve for great activities on spring open day.

We particularly enjoyed the pond-dipping and met Tom Hubball of the Yorkshire Branch of the British Dragonfly Society. He let us peer through a hand lens at a couple of dragonfly larvae in a test tube. He pointed out the three feather-like structures at the end of their abdomen are their gills. The fact that the dragonfly larvae’s breathing apparatus is near its bottom gave great joy.
